Hi Ian.

None of the messages you posted are anything to worry about.  Although they 
are a little cryptic.

Think of them as if you're driving a car and someone is commenting on things 
along the way.  It's distracting, and may even get annoying, but it's not 
harmful, and after a while it's just "noise".

The trick is learning how to distinguish background noise from "Watch out 
there's a truck!!" :)

That only comes from practise unfortunately, or asking, so please, don't be 
afraid to ask.

The app in KDE that watches your directories for changes, isn't able to do 
anything with /root (I suppose that's probably because you don't have 
permission as a normal user to do anything in there either.  In any case, it 
doesn't matter.)

This one is just general noise, all KDE apps babble on about it unceasingly, 
and it is quite ok.  It's to do with multi threaded applications, and it's 
purely informational.

This one, I really can't say.  I've seen this kind of thing before though, and 
if it wasn't accompanied by an actual error in an application, it still falls 
into the category of background noise.
