It's ok, we were all noobs at some point. :-) If you installed Solaris from the CD ISO image, some of the languages/locales are on the 5th CD (it should be labelled "Languages"), en_US.UTF-8 seems to be spread around. If you installed Solaris from DVD, everything should be on the DVD. The easiest way to do this: 1. Logon to CDE as root 2. Remember: You Are Root!!! (Don't Delete Anything!) :-) 3. Make sure vold is running (ps -ef | egrep vold) in an xterm 4. If vold is _not_ running, start it manually: %#> /etc/init.d/volmgt start 5. Insert the DVD (or, if you are using CD's, insert each CD) vold should now take over the CD/DVD, and it should pop up a window with the contents of the CD. there should be a script in this window named "installer". double click on the installer script in that window to launch it -- this will pop up an installer window. and now, move around the installer (with the navigation buttons), and look for the Languages options, select them, and install them. if there are no Language packages on this CD, just exit the installer, eject the CD and proceed to the next one. if the Language packages have any dependencies, the installer will take care of them. wherever you find any Language packages, just install them. i recommend installing all the languages. the libraries and configuration files don't take that much space, and since you're installing anyway, you might as well never have to deal with this ever again. :-) obviously, it will be much easier with a DVD, since you only have to do this once. :-) --Stefan -- Stefan Teleman 'Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition' [email protected] -Monty Python ___________________________________________________ This message is from the kde-solaris mailing list.
