Compiling applets from playground

How does one compile and test an applet in Playground? I need to triage this applet: http://commit-digest.org/issues/2008-11-02/moreinfo/875994/ Instead of instructions, I would appreciate if someone could RTFM me with a link, as I have been unable to find the information myself.
