This is on the 3.5.10 kmail, is it different on 4.3.2? Did you look into the context menu of your DIMAP account or of one of the DIMAP folders? I don't think there's a difference between KDE 3.5 and KDE 4.3 with respect to local subscription. FWIW, I'm also using KDE 3.5.
