OK, I decided to re-create all my kde config.  I created a new user 'nbecker2', 
then after logging into kde, I copied over

.config/akonadi
.local/share/akonadi
.kde
(renaming existing dirs)

That _almost_ worked.  Problem is, many configs and symlinks had the name 
'nbecker2' in them - and some binary database files.

Try #2: rename /home/nbecker -> /home/nbecker.old
make a new user 'nbecker' forcing the same uid
Repeat above procedure, this time copying everything to nbecker.old
Finally, mv /home/nbecker.old -> /home/nbecker, then get rid of extra user 
account.

I think I'm back in business (not certain yet)
