And guess what?  That only fixed it temporarily.  kmail is once again not 
working.  It doesn't check mail.  And if I try to edit my mail receive 
configuration (for gmail imap), nothing happens.  No dialog opens.

Well I think I replaced every config file that could possibly be replaced.
