late collection of emails

Hi,

Just had a strange situation.  I loaded Kontact to check my mail and nothing 
had arrived. This is unusual as i only check mailing lists (open suse and 
kdepim) in this account and this was the first time since yesterday so unless 
the lists are broken i always have mail to read.
So after a while i pressed the "Check Mail" button and some mail did arrive 
but most of the email was from last sunday and they weren't duplicates.  This 
is a bit worrying for my other normal email accounts if emails aren't arriving 
in a timely fashion until i press "Check Mail".

Anyone with any clues as to how i can make sure kmail (or is it one of the 
other background services) picks up all emails on time?
