Kmail debug imap connection

Hi guys,

Installed kubuntu for the first time from many years of ubuntu (and then 
xubuntu) and thunderbird. Unfortunately kmail looks _extremelly_ slow 
fetching my mail compared to thunderbird but I haven't given up so I 
would like to know:
- How to install debug symbols for kmail?
- How to debug the imap connection to my server?
