Yes.

Reply[*] to the message instead of creating a new message.  Kmail will
automatically properly quote the message you are replying to in the
compose window.

This also preserves the threading.  Your message (the one I'm replying
to) is a completely new thread.

There are many references to E-mail list etiquette on the Web.  Here's

[*] Be sure to configure Kmail to "know" the message is from a mailing
list.  If you do not, then you must edit the recipients to only be the
list address instead of the individual posting the message you're
replying to.  I do this by filtering all messages from the list into a
separate folder in Kmail.  Then I set the folder properties: Folder ->
Folder Properties -> Mailing List tab.  Check Folder holds a mailing
list and click Detect Automatically.  Click OK.  Once that is done,
hitting Reply does the Right Thing(tm).
