Before I started the (German-speaking) lists for female linuxers/unixers
and programmers on lists.answergirl.de, I run across a paper about 
"how to plan and start a mailinglist". I don't remember the name of the 
author, but her major concerns were of the following: "When you start a
list, make sure it's focused. If the name of the list is descriptive,
make sure it matches the topic(s) you want to discuss on it."

Having a look at the kde-women list, the name indeed is program: 
kde and women. Thus, focussing on women, I don't really feel it is a
good name for a genderwise non-exclusive list. (as long as we don't want 
to discuss women and their relationship towards kde etc., such: a more 
philosophical, socio-critic, more scientific approach.)

I assume that most of us here on the list want a somewhat technical list.
My personal vision of it is of a discussion board for women involved
in or planning kde (or qt) projects, female kde/qt programmers, technical 
writers, translators, testers, designers, promoters, supporters whatsoever. 
I would like to see a list where women are helping other women with 
programming/user interface development/documentation/translation/testing ...
problems related to kde/qt.  
It would be very nice if this list could help new projects into being
(how is it to work in an entirely female software project?).

My vision is not of an enduser support list. There are many around, and
being a women <flame>, I observe that male DAUs (*) love to approach 
technically competent females when they see they can't cope with the 
answers they get from her male colleagues (in the first instance they 
of course approach men). And usually the women will satisfyingly 
help ...</flame>  
At the moment, kde-women is widely seen as a mixed enduser support list 
and this, pardon me, is the not exactly what I hoped from it :)

(*) a German acronym derived from GAU ("größter anzunehmender Unfall" --
maximum credible accident, mainly used in context with nuclear power plants. 
DAU means "Dümmster anzunehmender User", "the stupidest user imaginable").
