The PNGs on the website were generated using Batik, yes. But the code
from CVS can now generate bitmaps directly. Please download the code
from CVS or use a snapshot from
http://www.krysalis.org/tarballs/krysalis-barcode/.

Bitmap generation currently has only JPEG encoding support for JDK <1.4.
For JDK 1.4+ there's support for the Image IO API for which there are
several output formats available.

Let me know if you need more help. I haven't had time to update the
documentation, yet.
