Learning *any* assembler, even (as in MI) the assembler for a virtual 
processor, is valuable to the proper development of programming chops, 
because it gives you a better understanding of what's actually happening.

Aside from that, knowing OPM MI is useful if you're maintaining and 
expanding OPM MI programs that are simply too big and complex to port 
to, say, ILE C. (QuestView, for example, has one OPM MI program that has 
tens of thousands of lines of code.)
