We've had bad experiences with Java... 30+ MB of memory usage for the JVM doesn't sound so bad until you multiply it by 10,000 interactive users ;) (and yes we are familiar with the idea of using Java in a batch program processing requests off a queue) Couldn't find any existing C code.
