 Yes, using a third party component is a greate solution. But i surely know that it is not a solution for the lack of your knowladge about serial communication. Before four months i also was in the same plight, got offered many many components for free as well as for money. But finally i decided to go through MSDN and do it by windows APIs. So finally, I learnet lot about serial communication, communication related API methods and how i can wrap them up with delphi. I just wanted to access a PABX system, I didnt use any components, so now i can even communicate with sockets (Windows Networking) using the same APIs, thanks to my ground level exploration.  
 
So Handoko, I can offer you what I have reserched and found. Reply me if you are interested, then ill take you through it step by step upto the most complex serial communication algorithm.
