This is a clue but it is not an answer. On some code that I am no longer using, it seemed that black was equivalent to -$1000000 under Linux if a color was accessed through TBitmap.ScanLine but was equivalent to 0 under Windows. However, if you look at the definition of clBlack, it is 0 for both Windows and Linux so something strange was going on. I am no longer using this code because I ran into too many problems with it. It worked on my system but not on some other peoples systems.
