Kylix 3 Prof and fast MySQL access

Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with good and fast MySQL access through Kylix 3 
Professional ? I don't need data aware controls (so no need for DBGrid, 
DBEdit, and so on). I only need to be able to send SQL-statements and fetch 
the data. It does not need to be a visual component. I prefer it are 
components, but even that is not necessary. The most important is that it is 
very fast. It does not matter if it costs money (of course I prefer open 
source, and if it costs money it has to be reasonable).

TSQLconnection & TSQLDataSet are much to slow.
I tried before buying TMySQLComponents from Scibit (99US$), although it is a 
lot faster, I find it still to slow.
I tried MyDac from CoreLab (245US$), but installation of package does not 
work.
I tried direktsql, but there the lack of documentation will take to much time 
(if I don't find anything else, I will take the time to study it).
I downloaded mysql.pas, but this is for Delphi-windows, so it needs to be 
converted for Kylix-Linux (agian, not impossible, but to much time).

I use MySQL a lot through perl scripts, and if possible I would like to find a 
way to get the same fast access through Kylix.
