Check Delphi help for "OpenFile". This topic should reference the Windows 
API function for opening a file. I haven't tried this approach with a 
device opened for Input/Output, but this is where I would start since it is 
likely to be the simplest approach.

You might get better help from the list on this if describe (briefly) what 
it is you are trying to do. When you say you want both input and output via 
the LPT port, it sounds like you are trying to control some device that is 
not a printer. If, on the other hand, you are trying to control a printer 
that talks back through the LPT port, there are specific API calls that 
address virtually all the printer issues.
