I am surprised you can preview a report without a default printer let
alone try to print (on paper)!!

I don't know of any way to do this unless you create your own preview. 
Lookup 'TQRPreview' in the QR help file for an example.

If I were you and were conecerned about this, I would create a generic
routine to call prior to running any QR reports that would get the
default printer.  If it failed then I would notify the user about the
problem and stop the process.
