Hi,

.NET is theoretically machine-independent,
but has so far only been implemented in full in
Windows.
Java is already available on nearly every current OS,
and it is possible to write completely portable Java
code which will run anywhere.
I think projects such as MONO(?) are trying to implement
a subset of .NET on Linux, but this will only be a
subset.
What I've heard about .NET is that in the next generation
of Windows operating systems, .NET will be the operating
system rather than a layer on top of it as at present,
and the current Windows API method of coding will be deprecated.
So it's a way of writing future-proof code (regardless
of whether you write it with Delphi for .NET or C#)
which has more chance of still working in 5 years
after the transition to 64-bit OS's.
