Dear Group I would appreciate any next step ideas (or user experience) on networking an topaz/delphi application. I am familiar with network terms but still learning. My application is within a medical office and currently I use a peer to peer network with a shared database of patient info, that resides on one computer. I have 2 users and this works ok. It is essentially a .exe file that is loaded on both computers but both link to the .dbf files in one common directory . I would like to expand to include a new user, in another building (300-400 meters away). Any comments on what works well , access speed is a big issue. I have win xp (pro) as my one computer and a lap top that currently networks (peer to peer) in. Can I (easily ) add the third user if both sites have internet access. Is this done the ' best' with a server? or with max of 3-4 users can I use my current machine (xp pro) as a terminal and a server. I'm I going to hit big problems sticking with topaz. I appreciate this is a complex question, but looking for some direction and identification of bottlenecks ,as to easiest and cost saving..( I realize these can be exclusive cost and easy...) Thanks for any direction Roger --^---------------------------------------------------------------- This email was sent to: [email protected] EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?clvXPN.a5kvff.Z2NsZHQt Or send an email to: [email protected] TOPICA - Start your own email discussion group.
