Well my experience of this geant stuff is: 1. It took me days to work out roughly what it was and how to use it. 2. Even then, I didn't finish up using it. 3. It looks just like technology that I used all the time (and was expert at) circa 1990, except that today it's all XML-ified. Having done it both ways, I know for a fact that the old way is *not* better. What I was trying to do with EPOM, ECLI, Gobo, etc. would be done in a modern IDE by selecting a few things and clicking OK. Most installs these days are a few mouse clicks and it's all over in ten minutes. Maybe I could have got EPOM up and running too in 10 minutes, if I'd known what to do, but the options were sufficiently ill-defined that it took me about 100 times that length of time.
