I read the thread in the archives but haven't understood why the LGPL 
wasn't even mentioned...

LGPL code can be linked in both open source and proprietary product ; it 
only forces disclosures of the changes to the lib itself, not of the 
full code of the program. It is the licence generally used when GPL 
would be too strong.
