Re: Moto binary

I think I need to do some more testing. My Redhat 7.3 box is kind of 
... 'not totally operational' right now so I can't test the module or 
mmc at the moment. The more reported success stories I hear from user 
who have installed RPMs built by other users the more confident I'll 
feel.

To this end I suggest that perhaps RPMs should start getting added to 
the contrib directory in the repository so they can be tested by other 
users (who have access to the repository). I can also see about adding 
a contrib area to the moto support site (with file upload) where these 
RPMs can be uploaded and retrieved by a larger group.

What RPMs do we need exactly ?

I figure new RPMs will be needed when new moto versions come out. Is 
there any way we can automate construction of these RPMs for multiple 
targets at once :)

And I guess we would like a different package for each of the major 
linux distros (rh,debian,suse,mandrake)

How do the linux versions play into RPM construction ? Do we need a 
different rpm for Redhat 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, and 8.0 ? Should we only ever 
bother with the last two or three releases ?

Your spec file uses the Redhat layout. I haven't used that layout on my 
own installations in ages :) but it seems to work. I worry a little 
that the RH layout isn't really up to modern RH standards ... could 
someone take a look at the layout and see if it makes sense ?

Should we also distribute RPMs that use the unified layout ?

Sorry for all these questions. Package management is just a very 
foreign concept to me that I need to learn more about :)
