Thanks! I looked in Bitarray, and saw that the issue was that one of the
internal types didn't have [@@deriving bin_io] next to it, though all the
subtypes are actually Binable.

I can't just include Bitarray because that doesn't allow me to change the
type in there.

As a workaround, I copied all of Bitarray's code into my module
(effectively reimplementing Bitarray) although that isn't satisfactory...
