Connection opened but invalid login packet(s) sent Error with SQL Server 2000

I have being using Sybperl (mainly Sybase::CTLib) to work with our Sybase
database for a few years. Now we are migrating to SQL Server and when I try
to connect to SQL server I get the error above on SQL Server and the
"ct_connect(): network packet layer: internal net library error" on my Linux
box.

I found out that MS SQL server 7.0 had this problem and it was fixed via SP
2. I'm currently running MS SQL 2000 on SP 3a.

Any ideas? I haven't rebuilt sybperl as I'm still working on my Sybase DB.
Do I need to do this?
