Hello, world! This is Simon Cozens, www.perl.com managing editor, 
bringing you the latest goings-on from the world of Perl and our 
own site.  

* Perl at large.

Well, Parrot 0.0.10 has been released to the world--this release 
is code-named "juice" after the spanking new "-Oj" flag for 
optimizing the JIT. It seems, from this release, that the 
intermediate compiler (IMCC) is more tightly integrated with 
the runtime, allowing metadata from the compilation phase to be 
used to speed up execution.

And there have been a few new modules appearing that you should 
probably know about. Path::Class is a nicer alternative to 
File::Spec; Email::Simple is a nicer (but more, uh, simple) 
alternative to Mail::Internet; Test::Deep is similar to 
Test::More's is_deeply function but more so; 
CGI::Wiki::Plugin::Locator::UK is quite bizarre but inspired me.

* What's new on www.perl.com?

Last week Piers escaped the arduous task of having to summarize 
the discussion related to Apocalypse 6. He is not getting away 
with it this week. He has Apocalypse and Parrot news to cover, 
including a proposal to include the Judy array project, IMCC 
calling conventions, lots of discussion on the new "is" 
properties, and a whole host of stuff about complex variable 
types.
