eventGenerate

I am attempting to send a key press event I receive in one window to a 
specific window ID but the eventGenerate docs seem a little sparse on 
how to do this.

Here is a snippet of code
          $windows{main_window}->eventGenerate(
            '<KeyPress>',
            -keysym => $Tk::event->K,
            -root => $client_window_id,
          );

but I keep getting the error:

Tk::Error: bad window name/identifier "50331666" at 
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/Tk/Submethods.pm 
line 19.

So, how i am calling this wrong?  The window identifier does exist and 
has been checked with xwininfo (but wasnt created as part of this perl 
code).

This is with perl v5.8.5, Tk 804.07 on Fedora Core 3
