I met Nick in Bedford in 1985, well before the development of Perl, Tcl or Tk. The Bedford design team, being somewhat geographically isolated, tended to be self-sufficient and very innovative. Nick was an inspiring leader within that team. Among many other things, Nick had developed a scripting language for interactive forms, which he implemented on Apollo computers. It incorporated ideas from IBM's SPF and other sources. The Bedford team used it extensively to automate design procedures. In a few years, when Perl and Tcl/Tk emerged, Nick saw the opportunity to do something even better, even though it meant discarding a good chunk of his previous work. I think he succeeded beyond his expectations and we all benefit from his initiative and insight. I am saddened by the passing of a friend and colleague. -- David Thomas Texas Instruments, ASP Advanced Development, Houston EMAIL: [email protected] VOICE: 281-274-2347 --++**==--++**==--++**==--++**==--++**==--++**==--++**== ptk mailing list [email protected] https://mailman.stanford.edu/mailman/listinfo/ptk
