Hi all,

Back in the ZooZ days (don't worry if you don't know what that is), I had a few ideas/suggestions about defining GUI layouts in XML or other formats. These ideas resurfaced as I was recently playing around with Android development, as the Android SDK has such support built in.

Basic idea is that the GUI portion of your program is completely decoupled from the rest of your program, and is expressed in some language-agnostic fashion. Since I despise XML with passion, I'm advocating the use of YAML (which is not without its own set of problems).

Anyway, there are lots of details/thoughts, and I haven't gone through all of them yet. I have started a series of posts on this topic on my brand-spanking-new blog (shameless plug!):

http://blog.qumsieh.net/2011/05/enhancing-perltk-with-yaml-part-1.html

There are currently 3 posts, and more are coming as I collect my thoughts together and work on a prototype. Feel free to comment either here or on the blog. I'm sure lots of people here will have strong feelings on the subject, and will help shape its course.

Thanks,
--Ala

PS. Do posts here automatically get mirrored to comp.lang.perl.tk? It doesn't look like it.
