Perl/Tk is indeed still at an 8.4-based Tk.  Without some efforts to do the=
 update it will remain there, and the efforts aren=92t trivial due to the d=
esign nature of Perl/Tk.  It sacrifices deep bindings with Perl at the expe=
nse of ease of updates.

Perl/Tkx has shallow (but fast and efficient) bindings, and is written in a=
 way which allows you to select the version of Tk to use.  The latter featu=
re sacrifices =93ease of building=94, as some have noted.

What are you missing in Tk 8.5?  Primarily theme-able core functionality an=

What are you missing in Tk 8.6?  A couple more core dialogs, better mouse w=
