Re: Squeak Oversight Board Election 2026

Hi all,

ok, so I'm running for a board seat for the third time. :-) Last fall, I finally started my PhD at HPI and while it is still unclear where this research journey will lead to, it will clearly have a strong connection to my excitement about Squeak. I want to draw as much inspiration from and feed as many ideas back to Squeak and the community as possible. In the last paper I coauthored, we explored how exploratory programming (all the work with inspectors and debuggers in Squeak we love) and literate programming (as known from Jupyter notebooks for Python etc.) could go together. [1] Maybe this could one day improve our experience when collaborating on the Squeak mailing list via Squeak Inbox Talk! I've also been working with Marius and Eliot on making the OSVM simulator even more enjoyable, and I believe there are a lot of further opportunities for making VM development as enjoyable as Trunk development.

In terms of Squeak, I have spent a lot of time recently on helping the 6.1 release to become reality, and I hope we can make the final steps very soon. :-) Beyond that, I am having many small and large ideas to evolve Squeak further, and the images lying around on my disk should contain enough patches for one or two further releases, which I'm looking forward to polishing and submitting when their time has come! Overall, I want the community to grow and Squeak to evolve and shine yet remain as simple and backward-compatible as possible.

I'd be happy to serve on the board again, but I'd be even more happy to see new faces on the board, so please keep your applications coming, fellow Squeakers!
