RC1 is here :) Hi all -- I bundled Squeak 6.1 RC1. It is not yet signed, which makes it a bit tricky to run on macOS platforms: https://files.squeak.org/6.1rc1/Squeak6.1rc1-23918-64bit/ I noticed that the files for the older release notes are still in the bundle. We should remove those as all notes are in-image now. Another SqueakJS test would also be helpful as we might want to skip Objectland there (even the starter takes a second or two). The current release candidate (OSVM Version 2026) looks good, we will most likely get one more soon. Around fall last year, I volunteered to oversee the next Squeak release. I would like to propose a schedule the move things foreward: - Feature Freeze on March 25 (i.e., Squeak 6.1 beta) - Code Freeze on April 10 (i.e., Squeak 6.1 rc1, rc2, rc3, ...) Then we will see how many release candidates we need to decide on the final version and open up Trunk development again, which will likely be "Squeak 7.0 alpha". Hopefully before end of April. Go ahead and take a look at the current state of affairs right now :) - https://files.squeak.org/6.1alpha/ After the Feature Freeze, we will offer Squeak bundles with the then released OSVM. Until then, find the latest release candidate "OSVM Version 2026" here: - https://github.com/OpenSmalltalk/opensmalltalk-vm/releases/tag/202601200834 If you do not want to think about (new) features or picking things from the inbox, you can always start testing for bugs now.
