It sounds as if you would gain a lot by reading up on how Smalltalk works and how it is very different to old ways of doing things. Try Smalltalk Central (http://www.smalltalk-central.com/ showDocument.ssp?section=Articles&name=Documentation), http:// www.iam.unibe.ch/~ducasse/FreeBooks.html etc. Basically we just don't do dead code.
