Strongtalk: planning a way forward

Hi everybody.  I'm an absentee smalltalker who would like to play with
this beautiful language again.  I've heard amazing things about
Strongtalk's performance (and can't seem to bring myself to use
Squeak!) and would like to help move this project along.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to get started.  And I haven't been
able to detect any sense of direction.  My apologies if my sending
this message is stepping on anybody's toes, but with Dave's departure,
I thought this might try to get some conversation going.

My personal interests are to get a simple environment up and running
so I can fiddle with some Smalltalk code with graphs.  I currently run
NetBSD on an i386, which is reasonably close to Linux, and will be
shortly moving to the Mac.  So I'm looking to find the gcc
compatibility changes and then start to see about a port to wxWidgets
(in the absence of anything else?).

I see three branches in the repository and some recent commits, but I
haven't found any discussion about the intent for these branches, nor
ideas for re-integrating back into the head.  I'm guessing gcc-
prunedtree is for prunedtree's experimentation?  gcc-linux is
presumably to get a build process into shape suitable for Linux -- and
hopefully other Unix-like OSs?  Are these branches being periodically
synced to head?
