Thank you, Karsten, for the pointer to Arden’s and Suzzane’s explanation for why the PUL program has been stopped in its tracks for so long. Though disappointing, that’s the first time I’ve heard a coherent rationale behind it all. The question that wasn’t asked, and whose answer wasn’t offered, was: “What’s the estimate for how long it will be before all those countries with current software technology export/import issues will clear the way for Cincom Smalltalk software?” And it sounds like this could be a continuing issue for PUL, if and when the current export/import issues are ever cleared up. That is: What happens when some company in a new country wants to make a major purchase of VW, but which also has protracted export/import regulatory issues? And looking further ahead, the more successful Cincom is (and we all wish them much success), the more countries will want to import their products, and the more frequently they will run into these export/import problems … and the more often PUL will be hung up. If PUL is an important part of Cincom’s business model, I hope a more graceful approach for it’s deployment can be found, lest its future releases continue to arrive in very unpredictable fits and starts. It should be obvious to anyone who is looking at this, that the PUL program is either dead, or close to it. Either way, PUL is not a priority for them any more.
