[phpldapadmin] PHP LDAP Admin User Help Needed -- LDAP User Password Retrieval

I am a senior software developer, but new to LDAP usage.

We are developing a classified application in a classified DoD environment.

We are running  PHP LDAP Admin 1.2.0.4  .

I am attempting to retrieve a user name and password from the LDAP for authentication against a SOAP message header username token.

I am using Layer 7 SecureSpan Manager for the LDAP retrieval.

I am successful in retrieving the username, but the password appears to be encrypted when I retrieve it.

During development, at least, the Layer 7 policy is expecting the password in the SOAP header username token to arrive in clear text.

Is there any way to retrieve the LDAP password in clear text for comparison and testing of the subsequent Layer 7 policy assertions ?

The value I am retrieving is " userPassword " - is that the correct reference for the LDAP user password ?
