It's funny you mention that, because I'm in the process of writing a 
message to the list about abandoning PHP, and contributing a lot of our 
heavy stuff which RoR is missing.

I'm using rails on two projects right now, it has some great tools and 
some flaws - but ruby (and python, for that matter) are so far and away 
better than PHP that I think it's pointless to continue with a language 
like PHP - it's just masochism ;)

I like twisted/nevow as well, but I think rails is a more mature 
framework with a larger app dev community - lots of people are using 
rails on real commercial web apps.

But rails is young: it doesn't have RBAC, it's missing some validation 
stuff, there is no form toolkit to speak of, etc etc - so a _lot_ of 
the work we did is useful / good / etc.

I also don't like the rails template system - it doesn't really have 
one, just like oldskool-php, called 'ERB': <%= ruby-statement %> 
(FUGLY) which many used and eventually abandoned through experience.

I think we could contribute a great deal to rails, and in the process 
gain what we have always been missing in bc: an excellent OR layer 
(ActiveRecord).

My much longer message was going to explain my decision to switch all 
of turing's development to rails, but I guess that's moot now - so 
there it is: I will be using rails for all future projects, and would 
love it if many BCers would come along with me and contribute the 
amazing shit we built here to rails :)
