While many major Linux distributions are shifting to *Wayland* as the
default, several remain committed to *X11* for the foreseeable future,
either by default or as a fully supported fallback.[1

Distributions Defaulting to or Prioritizing X11[1
<https://thenewstack.io/ubuntu-25-10-scraps-x11-for-wayland-a-solid-step-forward/>]
* *Linux Mint*: Known for its conservative approach, Mint 22 continues
to use *X11 (Cinnamon)* as its default. While they have introduced
an experimental Wayland session, the development team prioritizes
the stability of X11 for its flagship experience.
* *Slackware & CRUX*: These "minimalist" and veteran distributions are
often cited as the most likely to maintain X11 support indefinitely
due to their philosophy of sticking with proven, traditional
Unix-like technologies.
* *Mageia*: Mageia 9 still ships with *KDE Plasma 5* and *X11* as the
out-of-the-box experience.
* *Debian (Stable)*: While Debian 12 (Bookworm) uses Wayland by
default for GNOME, it maintains robust X11 support for all
environments. Users can expect X11 to remain available in Debian's
stable repositories through approximately 2030–2032 due to long-term
support cycles.
* *Arch Linux*: Because Arch is user-configured, it does not force a
default; it remains a top choice for users who want to manually set
up and stay on X11 environments like *i3wm* or *Openbox*.[1

The problem with Wayland . . . is it sucks. They tried for "One Ring To
Rule Them All" without watching the Lord of the Rings movies to see how
that turned out. There was absolutely no reason to force their virtual
reality N-dimensional vision onto a desktop. You can't even save an
application window position and reopen it in the same place. People been
used to that since GUI DOS (Windows prior to NT).
As an embedded systems person in the medical device world I can tell you
that XWayland sh*t don't work! It's a rental car company's definition of
"full sized."

<p>The problem with Wayland . . . is it sucks. They tried for "One
Ring To Rule Them All" without watching the Lord of the Rings
movies to see how that turned out. There was absolutely no reason
to force their virtual reality N-dimensional vision onto a
desktop. You can't even save an application window position and
reopen it in the same place. People been used to that since GUI
DOS (Windows prior to NT).</p>
<p>As an embedded systems person in the medical device world I can
tell you that XWayland sh*t don't work! It's a rental car
company's definition of "full sized."</p>

I've used FOX right now on X11 with a regular 1980 monitor but

want to also support it on a newer 4k monitor with HDR

requires global scaling to be respected (typically 150-200%

requires wayland to be used. It would be nice to know if these

are planed for the future or not.<br>
