Are you putting it back to the same port?

That is not required, as you found later that reboot will sort it out.

If that works, then you should stick to this work-around.

The device driver mode is the preferred way of using libusb-win32
driver (libusb0.sys). The filter driver mostly works (even though many
experts say it should not work).

But it is known to not work with some device. We keep it for the
flexibility of the users. In your case, if reboot
works with the filter mode, then you should be happy and
stick to it.
