The term "HD audio" is kind of a standard term for a sound device that 
handles multi-channel audio at 24bit and 96kHz sampling rate.  There is 
no provision for 3D spatialization (beyond the multiple channels of 
output) or effects, as far as I know.

HD audio is a replacement for the older "AC97" standard for integrated 
sound.
