3.7.6 is over 7 years old so many things have been changed since.

I can't recall any crashes due to multiple selection and its implemented in 
a fairly simple way.

If you can produce a stack trace by running inside a debugger, that can 
show where the crash is occurring. A crash when scrolling could be a lexer 
or folder bug while processing the revealed text. Relevant details include 
the active lexer and whether word wrap is on and whether it affects the 
crash.
