Delay in voice call

Hi,

When trying to make calls using sipset, everything seems to be working fine
till we accept the call. After we start talking, we experience a significant
delay, about 4-5 sec and echo in the voice call.
Is there any way to rectify this problem ?

Could it be a machine problem ? (difference in RAM/speed etc between the
machines ?)
Could it be a network problem ? (load in the network, congestion)
Could it be a vocal software problem ?
Could it be a problem in the configuration ? (codec used or jitter
configuration etc)
