Thanks for your reply. I was using a gentoo ebuild for wxgtk. i went
through the ebuild and made sure that the debug option was not used.
also, i enabled gtk2 on it.

recompiled everything again, and boom! works great. i can't wait to get
more acquainted with this. well done, and thanks again.
