And I found a 2nd thing:

If we are gpl2. 0 and ship as a bundle the user cannot look inside (without knowing that they actually can and how, that is) our startup message referring to a COPYING file might not be enough. Perhaps we might want a license() command of sorts that per configure option might be extended to show additional licenses of the software Maxima comes bundles with.
