In particular data produced in the public domain, e.g. data = from population surveillance, requires large-scale processing, modelling an= d semantic annotation to provide sufficient support in the decision process= es linked to the risk assessment for the population, e.g. in the case of ep= idemic and pandemic outbursts. In addition, increasingly semantic Web tech= nologies are being applied in these knowledge rich domains to achieve inter= operability of data and the semantic normalisation of the data resources fo= r subsequent interpretation. The PhD position will focus on data modelling in the biomedical domain and = on the simulation of biomedical and social diffusion processes. These proce= sses are linked to the tracking of disease outburst in social media in corr= elation with or in contrast to other reporting data from public resources a= nd statistical information from official sites. It is the overall goal to = determine predictive parameters for future outbreaks. Systematic comparison= s between outbreaks of similar or different types from consecutive years wi= ll provide insights into the parameters relevant to the outbreaks. The Insight Centre for Data Analytics at the National University of Ireland= , Galway, invites applications for a PhD position in the area of data model= ling, simulation, statistical models, development of prediction models. The= PhD student will be hosted by the IT department of the National University= of Ireland in Galway (NUIG) and the Insight Institute at NUIG.
