i thanks for your reply. I will forward this to the list. Unfortunately for the list I sometimes am an unapologetic top poster.

re glib I was referring to compiling Workrave on CentOS 5 without a much later glib version. Because CentOS is enterprise, glib is not latest and greatest. I compiled Workrave 1.9.1 on CentOS 5.3 i386 just now but I had to comment out a few things. Compiling Workrave 1.9.1 on CentOS 5.3 x86_64 segfaults at pthreads as of now

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Also there's a bug in gdome package regardless of
 platform
[root@localhost workrave-1.9.1]# /usr/bin/gdome-config --libs
/usr/bin/gdome-config: line 86: --libs: command not found
/usr/bin/gdome-config: line 87: --cflags: command not found
-L/usr/lib -lgdome -lxml2 -lz -lm

lines 86 and 87 have to be edited and prepend /usr/bin/glib-config before --libs and --cflags

I'm going to look into this more. I found the Workrave package x86_64 package on rpmforge using CentOS 5.3 x86_64 but in CentOS 5.3 i386 there is no Workrave i386 package for me even though there should be (right?) when rpmforge is enabled.

Thanks David.

Hi David,

Was the issue you describe ever solved?
Yes.

 How did you get Workrave working on CentOS ?
I fixed the problem I was having by finding a place in the gnome settings where I was able to create a notification area. Been long enough now I forget just how I did it. If you gnome setup includes a notification area already, you probably will not see the same problem, which was the only problem I saw.

 From what I remember Workrave requires later packages than those available to CentOS 5. I don't know of any way that workrave is functioning in CentOS 5.3 without upgrading glib which can't be done without messing up your CentOS, in other words it wouldn't be CentOS any longer.

Maybe my setup is not strictly centos 5.3. I am using  several non-standard repositories, including the one where I found workrave, which is rpmforge.

[root@cod ~]# uname -a

Linux cod.[] 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 #1 SMP Thu May 7 10:35:59 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
[root@cod ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 5.3 (Final)

[root@CentOS_5 src]# pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0
2.12.3

I don't seem to have glib installed at all:

[root@cod ~]# pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0
Package glib-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.

Perhaps you should add the directory containing `glib-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'glib-2.0' found
[root@cod ~]# rpm -q glib
package glib is not installed
[root@cod ~]# rpm -q glib-2.0

package glib-2.0 is not installed

[root@CentOS_5 src]# pkg-config --modversion gtkmm-2.4

2.10.9
[root@cod ~]# rpm -q gtkmm
package gtkmm is not installed

Did you compile Workrave yourself
no

 or download a package?

yes.

I would like to try to reproduce your experience.

good luck.

May I forward this reply to the list? I notice you sent your email only to me.

Dave

Thanks,

Ray
