I'm assuming you mean the micro-break timer, not the restbreak one.

Reading mode should indeed keep the timer from resetting. Just to be sure:

    * Which version of workrave are you using?
    * Are you on Windows? Or Linux? Which distro?
    * After enabling "Reading mode", is there a check mark in front of it?
