Thanks for the tip. I uninstalled the 1.07 final and installed that test build. At least now I can transfer my Contacts from the phone.

I didn't get so far. The attempt to transfer contacts back to the phone got me an immediate exception (attached), but nothing (apparently) changed on the phone.

I wonder if my prior "success" at transferring contacts into the phone using the test version bitpim-1.0.7.20090805 might not have left something or some change in the phone which is now interfering with newer versions. Otherwise I'm not sure how some others (such as Mark) are able to get anything from the official release.
