Won't upload phonebook to my LX-VX11000 (enV Touch)

for starters, I'm using bitpim 1.0.7-Official on winXP
communicating to a LG-VX11000 (enV Touch)
 
Here's the problem: Bitpim detects phone just fine and will download all information from it, including all contacts in the phonebook. When i try to upload the phonebook data back to the phone, the checkbox next to phonebook is ghosted out. 
This is unbelievably frustrating as backup assistant is complete crap.
 
What's the deal?
