Application exception

OS is Windows XP Media Center Edition (SP3)
Phone is LG VX5500
Cable is USB to micro USB
USB driver is ver 4.8.1

If I try to read the contacts from the phone, I get the screen where it
shows me what it read in. If I click OK to proceed, the exception occurs.

I had a funny looking entry in slot 11, which I got rid of by adding a dummy
contact. That had no effect.

Another person posted that they stopped using groups and that was a
work-around, but I don't have any contacts in a group.

Any help with a work-around or fix would be greatly appreciated,
